Learn the "Covid Grip" to Escape Side Control

I visited the school I began in the US which is now run by Lee King to train. The assistant instructor is Chris Currie (2023 Pan American Silver Medalist) showed me a technique that he had come up with for controlling and reversing his opponent when caught in bottom side control. I liked it so much that I asked him to share it with me. If you like my style of teaching and my content, then you c...

A friend of mine once said, “the only techniques you know are the ones that you can execute live.” I’ve known so many people that try to learn every technique under the sun but most of those are irrelevant if you can't make them work. The better plan is to build a system and constantly work to refine it only adding techniques that fit into that system. Then, the battle plan is to funnel them in...

It has been eight months and I'm one stripe white belt, and I feel everyday I'm on the mat im getting worst and worst. Everyone is kicking my behind, and every time i get a mount or side control I immediately lose it. I hope it get's better.

      The bad news is there will be many periods like this in your journey. The good news is that there will many periods where you will feel invincible. The real battle is just always moving forward. It's going to be hard but at those times where nothing seems to be working just start working on something new. If you're going to lose then lose while learning. Embrace the suck

    I was 17 when I wrestled another guy who was clearly on steroids. His thighs were the only thing I could see when we were tied up while standing. He chose bottom to start the 2nd round. He stood up the first time like I wasn’t even there but I was able to return him to the mat. Before we hit the mat I arm chopped and I explosively drove my patella into the o-ring. I was not driving him forward by pushing on his rear section with my body weight transferred through my thigh In an efficient manner. I connected with just the patella and maybe 30% of my mass as it relates to Force=mass*acceleration The arm I chopped suddenly became an easy chicken wing. A month later we were at the league tournament and he chose top to start the 2nd. I won the match 2-0 due to 2 escape points earned by starting rounds 2 & 3 from the bottom position. After the match I asked him why he gave me the point. He said he knew what happened last time and he didn’t want to knowingly sign up for it. 2 morals: A) This technique works. B) You will be remembered as ‘that guy.’ Our coach had us drill this move. He had us drill breaking opponents down with maximum transfer of (mass)*(acceleration) and (shock)*(awe). (Shock)*(awe) wasn’t a regular drill, but it was a tool in the tool belt. We also drilled a cross face to the same region that’s stated intention was to get your arm between your opponents legs. I swear we were just using the thumbs side of a stereotypical karate chop hand to punch our teammates taint.

    16:00 I've had two "competition" blue belts come to my school from a very well known school in California. The both left almost in tears because they were tapping from pressure. Everyone was actually being pretty nice to them but they had never experienced that before because its apparently no longer taught. This is a base level skill that any blue belt should be able to deal with. In my school blue belts don't get to tap from pressure. I've been training for over 23 years and its incredibly refreshing to see you teach this.

    This happened on Thursday, 30th November 2023. I just got out of the rolling session. Left it half way I was really frustrated and angry with myself I have given close to a year to BJJ and a junior who started a couple of days after me got me like I am nothing. I am not angry on that guy. But I am ashamed of myself. I didn’t go back to the gym after this incident, I am feeling what they will think about me. I myself now can’t face myself in the mirror. Some guys are more athletic and understand balance, weight distribution and are athletic, within one class they can pass guards and tap blue belts etc. i tapped blue belts within 3 months. However.. this doesn’t mean I am better than they are, I just done other stuff like judo and played rugby. Smaller, less stronger people will always struggle.. we have all thought about quitting!! My suggestion is keep going on think on where you started from, and where you are. A loss to a beginner means nothing. We all lose. It’s not the Olympic Games, it’s just small time BJJ. In 10 years you’ll be a purple belt at your rate. But by then you’ll have new abilities and be able to help those like yourself. Go back to class and thank me in 10 years

    3/4 mount is a far superior position to the typical mount. i love using the 3/4 far more than mount as it gives me a TON more control over the opponents hips and i can easily secure upper body controls and such as i wear out the opponent using minimal effort. i LOVE control positions- things like leg rides which 3/4 or side smash positions essentially are. though they don't score points, i can really secure my controls before advancing position.

      @ProfessorBulletMG 11 месяцев назад

      @@JIUJITSUMAN22 It’s quite possible that you missed the main point of Mr. Marsh’s statement, in that for liability purposes, you are always better off de-escalating and avoiding contact with an aggressor, that the opposite could work against you in a civil or criminal suit. In short form: If you can humanely deal with an aggressor and ultimately escape, that should be the ultimate goal, is what I believe he was trying to say. But it sounds like you either missed that or that you’re upset that a skilled practitioner of jujitsu has given you advice that, in your mind, I’m guessing, would make a martial artist a wimp because he took the “easy” way out of dealing with an aggressor? I’m not sure I get your point even though it appears to be obvious.
